NEW ORLEANS — The late Governor Earl Long joked that if you wanted to hide something from then-Attorney General Jack Gremillion, put it in a law book. I’ve said the same thing about former Attorney General, now Governor Jeff Landry.
The governor has a right to disagree with Judge Susie Morgan about the NOPD consent decree. He does not have a right to lie about Morgan’s record and call for her impeachment over a disagreement. That’s beyond wrong. It’s dumb, unethical, and unprofessional.
Any other lawyer would be barred from federal court and ordered to attend many hours of ethics and professionalism courses – or lose his license.
Short of that, Landry should learn the Model Rules of Professional Responsibility. Lucky for him, they’re online. He won’t have to use a law book.
