NEW ORLEANS — Change rarely comes easily. Making big changes is always difficult.
Governor Jeff Landry is learning that lesson first-hand as he tries to convince lawmakers to adopt a massive tax overhaul.
Landry pitched his reforms as a package, saying if all parts of it don’t pass, it won’t work.
He’s right. House members passed all of Landry’s tax cuts but balked at his proposal to impose sales taxes on dozens of currently un-taxed goods and services.
The governor now hopes that senators will salvage his plan, but the special session Landry called ends next Monday. That leaves little time to make the kind of big changes Landry wants. And making big changes in a hurry is both difficult and dangerous.
