Clancy's Commentary: Dos and Don'ts for a safe Mardi Gras

Clancy DuBos reminds you to have fun during this year's Mardi Gras, but to also do it safely.

NEW ORLEANS — We’re deep into parade season now, so it’s time for a refresher on how to enjoy Mardi Gras safely.

We’re all hoping for good parade weather, but we can’t control that. What we can do is make sure we keep ourselves and our loved ones safe during Carnival.

So let’s review some parade safety tips:

• Don’t put ladders too close to curbs.

• Don’t try to “claim” public spaces. Mardi Gras is a public party. Let’s keep it that way.

• Bring only the essentials: your ID, some cash, one credit or debit card, and of course your phone.

• Know where your kids are at all times. Write your phone number on their arms in case they get lost.

• Let kids catch the best throws, and be nice to visitors.

And, of course, mask up and have fun. Happy Mardi Gras!
