NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans City Council is set to vote Thursday morning on whether Anne Kirkpatrick should be NOPD’s permanent chief.
You know crime is out of control when the district attorney gets carjacked — with his mom in the car. That’s where we are in New Orleans. And that’s why the City Council needs to confirm Anne Kirkpatrick as the next police chief. N-O-P-D needs a permanent leader NOW.
That’s no slight to former interim Chief Michelle Woodfork, who did a great job. Kirkpatrick scored highest among the finalists. She’s already led several police departments, and she answered tough but important questions by a 5-member council committee last week.
Voters only recently gave council members confirmation authority, so this is an important step for them as well as Kirkpatrick. This one should be an easy vote. Because these days, even the DA’s not safe from violent criminals.
