NEW ORLEANS — A wise man once said, “Democracy dies in the dark.” That’s why it’s so important that we defend – loudly – Louisiana’s Public Records Law.
Right now, state lawmakers are considering several bills that could obliterate that law. The worst is Senate Bill 482, which tracks a horrible law that kept virtually all of Governor Bobby Jindal’s records out of public view – and goes a step further.
Senate Bill 482 would let elected officials at all levels, not just the governor, keep their records from public view. Imagine not knowing about Mayor Cantrell’s first-class travel at taxpayers’ expense, or LSU’s cover-up of sexual abuse by athletes.
Don’t let that happen.
Call your senator.
Let them know you’re watching.
Tell them to vote against any bill that keeps you in the dark – especially Senate Bill 482.
