City of New Orleans to hold lottery for artists to win permits to sell in Jackson Square

Artists interested must apply in person from Thursday, March 28 until Thursday April 4, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at City Hall.

NEW ORLEANS — Are you an artist who wants to sell in Jackson Square and in the French Quarter? Well, the City of New Orleans is giving local qualified artists a chance to win a permit by entering a public lottery on April 6.

New artists can obtain a Jackson Square "Artist A" permit at City Hall. The lottery is only open to qualified applicants and candidates on Saturday, April 6 at 10 a.m.

The city requires artists who sell in the area to have an Occupational License and Mayoralty Permit from the Department of Finance's Bureau of Revenue.

"Those eligible to obtain a Jackson Square "Artist A" permit are qualified applicants who either have a current Pirates Alley "Artist B" permit or have an application on file for a Jackson Square Artist Permit on or before Jan. 31, 2024," a release stated.

Artists interested must apply in person from Thursday, March 28 until Thursday April 4, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Department of Finance's Bureau of Revenue office, located on the first floor of City Hall.

All applicants must present a valid photo ID. All Pirates Alley permit holders who seek to upgrade to a Jackson Square permit must also present their current "Artist B" permit.
