Parts of New Orleans City Hall closed due to lingering smell

Officials planned to resume normal operations at City Hall, but a smell is still lingering.

Parts of New Orleans City Hall are closed on Thursday due to a lingering smell.

On Wednesday afternoon, just before 3 p.m., New Orleans City Hall evacuated all employees due to a suspected gas leak. The Department of Property Management, Entergy, and the New Orleans Fire Department confirmed that the odor detected was not a gas leak. However, the source of the smell is still being investigated.

Officials planned to resume normal operations at City Hall, but a smell is still lingering.

"The offices located in the West Wing of the First Floor of City Hall are closed to the public as of Thursday, Sept. 5, at 10 a.m., inclusive of the Bureaus of Revenue and Treasury, the Office of the Registrar of Voters, and the Department of Sanitation. All other portions of City Hall will remain open, and the affected City offices will remain open virtually," officials said.
