JEFFERSON PARISH, La. — Christmas is 23 days away and to help people across the New Orleans metro area get into the holiday spirit, Jefferson Parish is lighting up Lafreniere Park.
Every year come Dec. 1, Lafreniere Park lights up. What started out as a light display in 1986, has grown to become a work of art.
Tripp Rabalais, the director of the park says visiting the lights has become a tradition for some families. He says and there's a reason why families keep coming back.
"You won't see these anywhere else the majority of what's in here is hand-built, no one else has Star Wars, no one else has grandma getting chased by a monster truck."
From Christmas trees, to dragons, to snowmen, the light display will dazzle all ages, and there are some new additions.
"When you drive in off West Napoleon, there's a tunnel you can drive your car through that has music and lights synchronized," said Rabalais.
Over in Orleans Parish at Joe Brown Park, the Annual Holiday in the Park Celebration of Lights is also happening until Jan. 2.
The lights at Lafreniere Park run till December 30th. The cost is free for those walking, but $10 per car if you pay in advance. It's $15 per car at the park.
Gates open at 5:30 p.m.
The event will be closed on Christmas Day.
