HOUMA, La. — The Dularge Bridge over the Intercoastal Canal Waterway in Houma is closed after a barge hit the structure.

The DOTD closed the bridge on LA 315 in both directions on Thursday after it took damage to the draw bridge span’s locking mechanisms.

“Initial reports indicate that the vessel captain had not asked for a bridge opening, with the intent of passing under the spans with enough clearance under the span. DOTD bridge maintenance and inspection personnel are assessing the damage to determine what course of action is necessary to get the bridge operational and re-opened to vehicular traffic,” Terrebonne Parish officials said in a social media post.

Alternate routes available for crossing the ICWW are: LA 661 (South Van Ave.) to LA 57 (Grand Caillou Road) to LA 3040 (Tunnel Blvd.) to U.S. 90 (Barrow St.) to LA 315. LA 661 (South Van Ave.) to LA 57 (Grand Caillou Road) to LA 24 (Twin Span Bridge) to U.S. 90 (Barrow St.) to LA 315.
