Chaos at Bogalusa city council meeting

About ten minutes after her outburst, Douglas was allowed back into the meeting. We reached out to her for comment but have not heard back.

BOGALUSA, La. — What started as a city meeting to discuss a temporary Bogalusa budget freeze on Monday night became a chaotic scene.

“I have a double barrel shotgun, and both barrels are loaded,” Bogalusa Council Member Penny Douglas said.

Eventually, Council Member at Large Penny Douglas was escorted out of the meeting, after Bogalusa’s Mayor Tyrin Truong claimed there were threats of gun violence.

“Who brings up a shotgun in the middle of when they're angry?" Bogalusa Mayor Tyrin Truong asked. “I mean, it can't be anything but a threat.”

Truong says he won’t tolerate threats of violence and announced his plans to take legal action.

“I'm choosing to press charges because we have to start setting examples,” Truong said. “This is not okay. We have a gun violence problem here in the city.”

For a city already rocked by youth gun violence, the mayor says city leaders should be setting a better example.

“Here in the city, we're always trying to mentor the children and let them know that violence is never the answer,” Truong said.

About ten minutes after her outburst, Douglas was allowed back into the meeting. We reached out to her for comment but have not heard back.
