NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans firefighters discovered an unidentified burned body after battling a one-alarm fire in Gentilly Saturday evening.

The fire department says the fire started in the detached shed of a home just around the corner, from a nearby house on Robin Street, and spread quickly to other homes near the intersection of Frenchman and Selma Streets in Gentilly.

During post-fire investigation, a body was found on the floor of the original fire building. A spokesperson for the NOFD said the body was badly burned and could not be identified.

However, the homeowner tells WWL Louisiana that the victim was a 60-year-old man who lived in the shed.

In a report, NOFD Captain Edwin Holmes says that neighbors told them that an adult male often lived in the shed that was on fire.

NOPD and NOFD investigators were called to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire and the death of the victim.
