BATON ROUGE, La. — Governor Jeff Landry ordered a State of Emergency on Tuesday afternoon, following the impacts of Tropical Storm Beryl.

The storm’s bands caused significant damage across the state, leading to one fatality, extensive damage to homes and businesses, and widespread power outages.

“This State of Emergency will allow parishes affected by Beryl to utilize state resources as we begin the recovery process. We continue to remain in contact with our first responders and local officials and will assist them in every step of the way,” said Governor Landry.

The emergency order aims to assist affected parishes by providing necessary resources to protect life, safety, and welfare for citizens across Louisiana.

The executive action comes as local communities grapple with the aftermath, working to restore power and repair damage caused by the storm.

Hurricane Beryl broke many records as it strengthened to a Category 5 storm on July 1st. This is the earliest Category 5 storm to form beating the old record set in 2005 when Hurricane Emily became a Category 5 storm late on July 16th.

With Beryl already showing what this season is capable of, forecasters continue to believe this will be an extremely active season.
