Deputies said it happened around 8 p.m. when they got reports that a woman was stuck under a fallen tree, a release said.
DONALDSONVILLE, La. — A woman was rescued Wednesday evening after she got trapped underneath a tree during Hurricane Francine, according to the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office.
A video shared by the sheriff's office shows deputies and first responders at the woman's aid, pulling her up from underneath the tree in Donaldsonville.
Deputies said it happened around 8 p.m. when they got reports that a woman was stuck under a fallen tree, a release said.
“The Good Lord was with her. Six inches one way or the other and it would have crushed her,” Captain Jeff Griffin said.
They had to use chainsaws and jacks to help free the woman. The rescue took about 40 minutes.
“After freeing her from under the tree, she was understandably shaken and distressed by the situation," said Dy. Mueller. "I am grateful I was able to guide her through breathing exercises to help calm her.”
She was then taken to a nearby hospital with non-fatal injuries. The sheriff's office said it is unclear why the woman was outside during the storm.
EMS, Donaldsonville Firefighters, and several other emergency personnel helped during the rescue.

On lastnight, Sept. 11, around 8pm, deputies responded to reports of a woman pinned underneath a tree that had fallen during Hurricane Francine. Deputies used chain saws and jacks to help free her, which took approximately 40 minutes.
“The Good Lord was with her. Six inches one way or the other and it would have crushed her.” Captain Jeff Griffin told reporters. Captain Griffin and Lt. Jason Kling initially responded with EMS and Donaldsonville Firefighters, followed by several others, including deputies Sgt. Megan Delaune, Sgt. Jamie Wolfe, Lt. Kelly Brown, Dy. Ahmed Ahmed, and Dy. Laura Mueller, who has also serves as a volunteer fighter.
“After freeing her from under the tree, she was understandably shaken and distressed by the situation. I am grateful I was able to guide her through breathing exercises to help calm her.” Stated Dy. Mueller.
It is unclear why the woman was outside during the storm. However, she was transported to an area hospital with non-fatal injuries thanks to the swift and brave actions of all first responders involved.
