CROWLEY, La. — A 70-year-old Louisiana man has died after trying to put out a fire in his rented house in Crowley.
The state fire marshal says a woman who also lived there told investigators that a window air conditioner was sparking about 8:45 p.m. Monday. She said the man was trying to extinguish the fire when she left, urging him to leave too.
His body was found in a bathroom.
Fire marshal's spokeswoman Ashley Rodrigue said Tuesday in a news release that the fire's cause is undetermined, but electrical malfunction has not been ruled out. She says the air conditioner and several extension cords apparently were plugged into one power strip.
The Fire Marshal's Office says extension cords should be only temporary, and only one heat-producing appliance should be plugged into an outlet.
