NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Public Library issued a statement on Monday afternoon regarding the forced closure of Milton H. Latter Memorial Library on St. Charles Avenue due to a mold issue.
Officials released the following statement regarding the Milton H. Latter Memorial Library closure:
"Out of an abundance of caution, we decided to close Milton H. Latter Memorial Library to remediate mold found in one of our spaces. We are in contact with environmental scientists and began scheduling appointments to determine next steps.
During the closure, books on hold that are usually picked up at Latter Library will be sent to the Main Library (219 Loyola Avenue). You may also request to have them sent to another location for pick-up by logging into your Library account or by calling any location. Items may not be returned to Latter Library while it is closed to the public. Items may be returned to any other Library location."
The Central City Library on Jackson Avenue is also closed at this time.
Here is the latest update from the New Orleans Public Library on their Central City location:
"We continue to make progress on the recent Library closure. City Property Management had a vendor at the Allie Mae Williams Multi-Service Center last weekend to troubleshoot the AC problems. They reported that two compressors had shorted out. They have ordered new ones that they said they hoped to have in by last Thursday to make repairs.
As of this morning, three of the four compressors work. We do not know when the fourth will work, but we are planning to begin addressing the mold in our space.

The Nora Navra Library has reopened following repairs to HVAC unit.
