MONROE, La. -- Three people died Sunday morning in a residential fire in Monroe, according to state fire marshal officials.
The fire happened in the 2500 block of Burg Jones Lane just after 8 a.m. Sunday.
Investigators say they discovered the bodies of three adults from the blaze. Their identities have not been released. Two other adults were able to escape the fire.
Officials say burglar bars installed on the home "may have prevented" the victims from escaping. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The building was described as a small, wood-framed home.
