HAMMOND, La. — The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating what led to a fatal single-car crash in Hammond.

Sheriff Daniel Edwards says on January 27, at about 12:31 a.m., the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a single-vehicle crash on Wardline Road just east of Durbin Road in Hammond.

The sheriff’s office said 64-year-old Jimmy Ray Barnes was driving a 2005 Chrysler Town & Country van westbound on Wardline Road.

They say for reasons still being investigated, the Chrysler van entered the shoulder of the road and lost control before impacting several trees.

Barnes and his passenger, 58-year-old Cleveland Barnes, were both killed in the crash.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
