NEW ORLEANS -- Two Tulane students are in trouble with the law after state police say they had drugs shipped to an Uptown frat house from the West Coast.
Investigators say a search of Kappa Sigma revealed a laundry list of illegal drugs with an approximate street value of $10,000.
'The president is not available right now. He's at work,' said a member of the fraternity to an Eyewitness News crew that passed by on Tuesday.
As Uptown's Kappa Sigma fraternity finds itself embroiled in an alleged drug delivery controversy. Members didn't want to speak to the media.
'Customs and Border Protection and the U.S. Postal Service intercepted a package in San Francisco. That package contained 107 grams of MDMA, which is also known as Ectasy. It was destined for the New Orleans area,' said Louisiana State Police Trooper Melissa Matey.
That address, according to Louisiana State Police, was at 642 Broadway St., which is home to Kappa Sigma where an undercover detective delivered the ecstasy and made two arrests.
'The larger quantity of the MDMA indicated that it was a possible intent to distribute,' Matey said.
Louisiana State Police say 19-year-old Jules Staib of Baton Rouge and 19-year-old Wyatt Silverman of Pittsburgh now face multiple charges. While searching the frat house, troopers also seized 57 dosage units of LSD, 69 grams psychedelic mushrooms, 48 grams of opium, 22 grams of marijuana, .80 grams of cocaine and .91 grams of DMT (dimethyltyptamine).
For neighbors like Jeff Baumgarten, who is raising three young kids around the corner, the drug bust is concerning.
'Having a house close by that received drugs and is thinking of selling them in an area with a number of families not affiliated with the university, it's something we're not happy about,' said Baumgarten.
This is what local college students had to say about the frat house arrests:
'I'm just not really that surprised because it's college, and stuff like that happens,' said Loyola student Alycia Lenoble.
'We are in college and that's a recreational thing that some kids get into. It is a little surprising about the quantity, especially in this area,' said student Olivia Feles.
Tulane University says if one of its students is involved in non-academic misconduct, they have to go through a hearing process outlined in the Student Code of Conduct.
A spokesman for the local chapter of Kappa Sigma tells Eyewitness News that those members were expelled from the fraternity and evicted from the house.
