Increase in car break-ins concern Kenner residents

Since April 1, there have been 17 vehicle burglaries in the north side of Kenner -- all happening between 1-5 a.m. Lieutenant Cunningham believes it could be the same group of individuals.

KENNER, La. — Make sure your car doors are locked at night, especially if you live in one part of Kenner.

According to investigators, 1-3 people are targeting the areas around the Chateau Estates neighborhood. Sunday night, police believe the thieves pulled on every car door handle on Chateau DuLac, looking for unlocked cars.

“Theyre looking for mainly small items, money in vehicles,” said Lt. Michael Cunningham with the Kenner Police Department.

According to police, at least two cars were broken into overnight Sunday, but many more were attempted.

"They're walking up and down the streets pulling on door handles,” Cunningham said.

It was a similar story early last Tuesday morning when 11 cars were broken into around the Vintage, Bordeaux, and Joe Yenni areas.

Since April 1, there have been 17 vehicle burglaries in the north side of Kenner, all happening between 1 and 5 in the morning. Cunningham said he believes it could be the same group of individuals.

"You can’t see the faces clearly, but were asking if you can focus more on the clothing, you may recognize someone whose worn that clothing,” Cunningham said

The group could be repeat offenders who are back on the streets.

"We made some arrests a couple weeks ago, those individuals are back out of jail and we're looking at that aspect of it,” Lt. Cunningham said. “We’ve added patrols in the neighborhood trying to locate these individuals and we think its kind of moving, but they havent moved far out.”
