Houma fraudster arrested for fake raffle tickets

A Houma man seeking donations from local businesses for his son's surgery turns out to be a scam.
A man in Houma was arrested for selling fraudulent raffle tickets and seeking donations for his alleged son's major surgery.

HOUMA, LA -- A Houma man was arrested after several businesses complained he was seeking donations for what appeared to be a false cause, according to Terrebonne Parish deputies.

Sheriff Jerry Lapenter said that 33-year-old Wally Bazar stopped by local businesses selling raffle tickets and asking for donations for his son who needed a major surgery. Lapenter also said Bazar had a younger male with him who he claim was his son who needed the surgery during some of the visits.

Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said Terrebonne Parish deputies responded to several local business in reference to a scam Thursday evening.

Bazar was taken to Terrebonne Parish Jail and was booked on nine counts of theft under $750 and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.

He remains in jail on bond.

Anyone who is a victim of this scam or has information about the investigation is asked to call the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office.
