Virtual tour provides first-hand experience what it's like to suffer from dementia

The non-profit AdviseWell is making this technology available to the public next Thursday, June 27.

NEW ORLEANS — There's now a way to have a window into the world of someone who is living with dementia.

Second Wind Dreams has created a way for you to see what it's like trying to do simple, everyday tasks with dementia.

The virtual tour puts you to the test, to see how you cope, and react to the struggles facing people experiencing a loss of cognitive functioning.

The first-hand experience has now come to New Orleans.

The non-profit AdviseWell is making this technology available to the public next Thursday, June 27.

Some took the tour, Friday.

“It was a very confusing, emotional experience. I think it kind of gave me a small, a very small, glimpse of what it's like for our residents at Lambeth House that have dementia,” said Jennifer Credeur.

“The goal is to create empathy to help people understand what it's like to have dementia, so that when they interact or care for people with dementia, they'll do a better job of changing their behavior, and make it easier for the person with dementia, rather than expecting them to change to our world,” explained Melora Jackson, the Director of Clinical Services for Second Wind Dreams.

The virtual dementia tour will come to your place of business.

It is free for all first responders.
