NEWORLEANS - For the first time, thousands of people in the New Orleans area will have 'one-stop shopping' for all of their medical care.

The seven-story building at 3700 St. Charles Avenue, that used to be St. Charles General Hospital, is now the home where LSU doctors and surgeons, of many specialties, will see patients.

LSU doctors, who used to be scattered throughout the metro area, see more than 110,000 patient visits a year, with more than 45,000 patient care visits Uptown.

Physical therapy treatments, dental services and The New Orleans Musicians' Clinic will also be in the building.

Patients will also be able to sign up for clinical studies with the doctors who also do scientific research.

'LSU is committed to providing health care services in the best possible facility,' said Dr. John Lombardi, LSU System President. 'I'm pleased to say the Faculty Medical Practice Office Building will allow us to meet our commitment to our physicians and to our patients.'

The site was returned to commerce through a partnership between LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans and Touro Infirmary which renovated and will lease the facility to the LSU Healthcare Network. The LSU Healthcare Network is the faculty practice of LSU Health Sciences Center clinical health professionals. Services also include primary care, pediatrics, obstetrics, gynecology, ophthalmology, surgical specialties, oral and maxillofacial surgery, physical therapy, and internal medicine specialties such as endocrinology, pulmonary, rheumatology, nephrology, and allergy-immunology.

In addition to exam rooms, resources include an infusion suite, vascular lab, and an Ob/Gyn procedural room and support services.

'With the consolidation of multiple medical and surgical specialties and sub specialties, along with dental and allied health services under the same roof, the facility will house, for the first time, a true integrated multidisciplinary LSUHSC practice,' said Dr. Larry Hollier, Chancellor of LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans.

'This new resource is conveniently located on historic St. Charles Avenue near Touro Hospital, a longtime partner of ours in providing high quality care in the private sector,' adds Dr. Steve Nelson, Dean of the LSUHSC School of Medicine in New Orleans. 'Providing a broad array of services, including expert consults right down the hall, will be a true benefit to both our patients and our faculty.'

The LSU Health Faculty Practice Clinic joins the recently opened New Orleans BioInnovation Center, the Louisiana Cancer Research Center scheduled to open early next year, along with the new University Medical Center and VA Medical Center, now under construction, as part of the development of the bio sciences economy in New Orleans.
