NEW ORLEANS — I’m here thinking of each and everyone of you and giving you a virtual hug – and I think we all need that. These are extraordinary times. But you know what? We’re tough and we’ve been there and we can get through this.
What I have been thinking about today though is two things: 1- There is no more creative spot on earth than New Orleans, Louisiana. And, there is no more generous spot on earth than New Orleans, Louisiana.
And I think that’s what we have to think about – together, because, once we’re all safe from this horrible coronavirus, we have to think of those who are losing their jobs – those who are going to be looking at mortgages and car payments and electric bills, and, yes, the government is going to help some, and it should, but it may not be enough.
I think if we can look and say, “I can do one thing,” it may be just to pick up the phone, call someone you know that has lost their job, been furloughed, facing those things and say, “You know what, I want to pay your electric bill,” or “How much is your car payment? A friend and I are going to pitch in and pay for it. One person to one person – we truly are going to get through this together.
