HAHNVILLE, La. - The allegations first surfaced Thursday at Hahnville High school. The sheriff's office was contacted immediately, and by that night 30-year old Hahnville teacher Jeremy Eusea was arrested and charged with sexual battery and prohibited sexual conduct between an educator and a student.
Deputies say text messages and pictures began in January with a 17-year-old student, and there was inappropriate physical contact.
"I think it's crazy, I don't understand why it is like an epidemic right now, it keeps going on," said school graduate Miranda Folse.
Eusea is the fourth St. Charles Parish teacher arrested in less than two years. The news spread shock across the community, especially among Hahnville HIgh graduates like Miranda Folse, and Trellek Lewis.
"Kind of disappointment to the school," said Lewis.
Lewis has good memories of high school.
"I loved it when I went there, I loved it. I played football, I was in the band, ROTC, I wrestled a little bit. You know the teachers was cool."
Lewis was stunned at the news of Jeremy Eusea's arrest.
"I actually knew Jeremy, you know, from off the football team, but back then he didn't seem like the type of guy that would do something like that, but you never know nowadays I guess," Lewis said. "I'm hoping the allegations are wrong because he was a cool dude, but if it's true, then I can't change nothing about it. I just hope he gets his life together."
No one answered the door at Jeremy Eusea's house, but when reached by phone he had no comment.
The school system said they are cooperating with the sheriff's office, and that the teacher has been suspended without pay. The sheriff's office says their investigation is just beginning, and there is a lot more work to be done.
"Kinda shocking I guess. You know another one from St. Charles Parish?" said stunned Hahnville resident Eldon Savoie.
