NEW ORLEANS — Pontchartrain Park neighbors were at odds with NOLA Public Schools over the future development of the old Coghill Elementary School site.
The school district has now removed its request for a zoning change – that would have allowed multifamily housing on the 7-acre site.
The neighborhood association is seeking to build a community center there. That would include recreational facilities, a pool, afterschool learning space, and senior services.
In a statement, NOLA Public Schools said, "we reached out to both the city planning commission as well as the mayor's office to officially request that we withdraw the amendment to the future land use master plan, emphasizing that our goal is to enhance, not disrupt, the community."
