One person was killed and six more were wounded in six shootings this weekend

NEW ORLEANS — A woman was wounded near the Desire area just after midnight Sunday morning in the sixth apparent shooting reported by NOPD this weekend.

According to police, the woman, 31, was sitting inside a car in the 2100 block of Clouet Street in the 9th Ward around 12:11 a.m. with a man, 30, when the pair heard gunshots.

They got out of the car as the gunshots continued and the woman realized she was shot in the back, she told police. The man was cut on the wrist as well. Both people were taken to the hospital by EMS.

It's the sixth apparent shooting in New Orleans this weekend, bringing the total to one killed, six injured by apparent gunfire in 48 hours. 

Early Saturday morning, a man was shot while driving on I-10 in New Orleans East, the victim told NOPD investigators.

Later that morning, an 18-year-old was shot and killed while apparently practicing for a video in a New Orleans East home, according to police.

Saturday afternoon, police reported that a man had arrived at a New Orleans East hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest. He told them he had been approached by four people who open fired at him on the street.

Saturday night, a man was shot in the hand and taken to the hospital after apparently getting in an argument with his sister's husband over rent, police said.

Just after midnight Sunday morning, two men were apparently shot while walking in the 400 block of Bourbon Street, according to police reports.
