ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH, La. — A woman was killed after a school bus filled with 28 passengers struck her car in St. John Parish on Friday afternoon, according to Louisiana State Police.

Beverly Creecy, 67, of Reserve, was driving on LA 44 when the school bus carrying dozens of minors hit her car head on.  Creecy was driving a Kia Soul, a subcompact car.

According to state police, the 67-year-old woman was brought to the hospital, and even though Creecy was wearing her seat belt, died.

The crash happened as Creecy drove on the eastbound side of LA Highway 44, the school bus had been driving westbound before veering into the opposite side.

"For reasons still still under investigation, as (the school bus driver) conducted the right turn, the school bus entered the eastbound lane and impacted the front of the Kia," Louisiana State Police said on Friday.

Erica Fisher, 39, was driving the bus. Also wearing a seatbelt, Fisher was treated for what authorities described as, "minor injuries." No passengers on the school bus were hurt, authorities said.

Louisiana State Police said they responded to the crash shortly after 3 p.m. on LA 44 at LA 3179 (East 22nd St.) in Reserve.

Standard toxicology samples were taken from both drivers and submitted for analysis.
