Woman allegedly lied about having cancer for money awaiting trial

Perault was booked for theft and illegal transmission of monetary funds.

WALKER, La. — A Livingston woman awaits trial following her arrest last month on allegations that she lied about having terminal cancer for money, according to WBRZ.

The Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office said Jodie Price Perault turned herself in on Feb. 23.

Deputies said they heard multiple complaints about Perault deceiving numerous people in January. WBRZ reported that she claimed she was terminally ill.

Sheriff Jason Ard told WBRZ that  Perault "held several fundraisers between September 2023 and January 2024 to raise money. Victims donated to Perault via Venmo and other means."

The sheriff's office said it found out her claims were false after an investigation.

Perault was booked for theft and illegal transmission of monetary funds.
