WASHINGTON PARISH, La. — The Louisiana State Police responded to a deputy-involved shooting in Washington Parish on Tuesday afternoon.
Officials said a deputy was trying to pull a driver over for a traffic stop when the driver attempted to run the deputy over with their car. The deputy was injured and shot at the car as it drove towards him, according to the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office.
The incident happened near Clifton on Max Brumfield Road, northeast of Franklinton.
Troopers identified the driver as a man with a woman in the passenger's seat. They said the deputy possibly shot out a tire when the suspects ran off into the woods.
Police were able to catch and arrest the suspects. The deputy was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Troopers said they had a K-9 team in the woods searching for anything the suspects may have thrown out.
