Wanted arson suspect ‘turned himself in’ after seeing news reports about him, Crimestoppers says

“From my understanding, he saw this on television and Jefferson Parish told me just that he did turn himself in,” said Darlene Cusanza.

A man wanted in Jefferson Parish for several alleged stalking and arson incidents, turned himself in to authorities after seeing news reports on his alleged crimes according to Crimestoppers.

Stanley Molette, 43, was wanted on charges of stalking, attempted aggravated arson, and simple arson according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.

JPSO said on March 11, deputies responded to a series of reports of suspicious activity at a home in the Scottsdale neighborhood in Harvey.

When deputies arrived, they discovered that someone set fire to the patio and a vehicle that was parked outside the residence. During the investigation, Molette was developed as the suspect the sheriff’s office said.

Molette was featured in news reports and that is what led to him turning himself in Crimestoppers President and CEO Darlene Cusanza told WWL Louisiana.

“From my understanding, he saw this on television and Jefferson Parish told me just that he did turn himself in,” said Cusanza.

She says it is not uncommon for a suspect to turn themself into authorities after seeing a news report on them.

“Certainly, when they see their stories or their faces being shown. We also encourage them to do that. Because obviously, if you take that step, it's going to be easier on the whole case and yourself versus having to you know, having to not take that step in turning yourself in and holding it holding yourself possibly responsible.”
