NEW ORLEANS — Video shared to Instagram shows dangerous driving and a shooting on St. Claude early Sunday morning.
On Monday, St. Roch Market Operator, Kevin Pedeaux, described what he saw on surveillance footage before handing it over to the NOPD.
“It was a big ole group of people watching the spinout show. Looked like a car had lost the spinout and then went into the crowd that I could tell and then it cut off of our video," Pedeaux said.
A witness told WWL Louisiana that after the driver lost control of the vehicle, he hit bystanders and cars.
Video shared to Instagram shows a man bleeding and a crowd telling the driver of the red car to 'put it in park' and 'you can't go nowhere.'
Then, the driver takes off on St. Roch Avenue. When that happens, you hear around 20 gunshots go off within seconds.
A 29-year-old man was struck in his shoulder during the incident. The man drove himself to the hospital, according to the NOPD.
It's unclear if there were other injuries from the crash and shooting.
In 2022, NOPD responded to another stunt driving event at the same intersection. Video captured that day shows people jumping on top of the police car.
Soon after, the New Orleans City Council passed stiffer penalties for stunt driving.
What happened on Sunday happened around five hours after St. Roch Market had closed, Pedeaux said.
“Had we been open, it would’ve been taken care of I believe," Pedeaux said.
Pedeaux said market staff would have immediately called the police.
