HAMMOND, La. — The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that they are investigating two homicides that happened Friday.
They did not say if the two fatal shootings are related but one investigation resulted in the arrest of a man.
Just before 9:30 p.m., TPSO was called to the 12000 block of Oak Hill Road in Kentwood for reports of a fight. Upon arrival, deputies located 38-year-old Renaldo Brumfield shot multiple times. He did not survive.
Immediately, 41-year-old Gerald Harvey was identified as the suspect in the case and later that night deputies arrested him on 2nd Degree Murder charges.
Earlier in the day, just before 9 a.m. police in Independence Louisiana were called to an apartment complex on 1st Street for a report of an unresponsive person.
When officers arrived, they discovered a woman dead from what appeared to be a gunshot wound the sheriff’s office reported.
The victim was later identified as 18-year-old Le'Airrah Dupard.
The sheriff’s office says detectives believe the woman was standing near the window of her home when a bullet entered through the window.
They say they do not believe she was the intended target.
TPSO and IPD are actively working on the investigation, but investigators say they could use the public’s help.
