NEW ORLEANS — Two Breaux Bridge men suspected of robbing an ATM as a repairman serviced it, are now in the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office custody on a multi-million-dollar bond.
Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet announced they have arrested Gilbert Sidney Matthews, 27, and Jermonte Emeeko Hamilton, 23 on charges of First-Degree Robbery, in connection with the weeks-long investigation.
“On Monday, June 24th, shortly after 8:00 pm, the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division was called to a local bank in the 100 block of West Main Street, after reports surfaced of an Armed Robbery that had taken place at the location,” said Sheriff Soignet in a press release sent Tuesday.
“When Deputies arrived at the scene, they contacted a male victim, who identified himself as an atm repairman. Deputies quickly determined that two masked suspects approached the repairman as he serviced the ATM, who demanded money and threatened his life with the use of a firearm. The suspects then forcefully removed several components of the ATM, and fled the scene in a vehicle.”
The sheriff said Detectives of the Violent Crimes Division of TPSO were called in to further the investigation and through gathered evidence, they located the vehicle used in the robbery along with several broken ATM parts which led to the arrests.
On July 2nd, Matthews was taken into custody where he remains jailed at the Criminal Justice Complex on a $5,000,000.00 bond.
Hamilton was also taken into custody by the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office where he remains on a $3,000,000.00 bond.
