ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. — A Saint Tammany Parish grand jury has indicted two suspects for their role in a car theft that turned deadly.
Tedrine Jones and Emon Starks were formally charged with several felonies, including manslaughter, for a shooting that happened in August.
Authorities say Jones and Starks, Stephen Sampson, and Johvon Victor tried to steal a car from an apartment complex in Slidell.
The owner heard the car's alarm go off and confronted them. That's when an exchange of shots was fired between the car owner and the suspects. The car owner shot Sampson, and the suspects drove off in a black Cadillac Escalade.
Sampson was later found dead in the back of the Escalade.
Jones was indicted on the following charges:
- Manslaughter
- Aggravated flight from an officer
- Illegal possession of stolen things
- Attempted theft of a motor vehicle
Starks was indicted on the following charges:
- Manslaughter
- Illegal possession of stolen firearms
- Illegal possession of stolen things
- Attempted theft of a motor vehicle.
