Two fatal shootings on Thanksgiving Eve leave two dead, police say

Two of the victims died at the hospital.

NEW ORLEANS — Two people were shot and killed on Wednesday night after two separate shootings occurred blocks away from each other on Canal Street.

NOPD said they received a call around 7:58 p.m. and confirmed around 8:09 p.m., that two people were shot in the 2200 block of Canal Street.

Officers said the two victims had suffered gun shot wounds. One victim was taken to a nearby hospital and the other was brought to a hospital privately. At 8:32 p.m. NOPD reported one of the victims, later identified by the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office as 22-year-old Christopher Wilson, died at the hospital.

At the same time, another shooting happened in the 800 block of Canal Street. A man suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to a nearby hospital. Officers later reported the man, later identified by the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office as 28-year-old Timothy Sams, died.

NOPD is investigating both incidents and no further information is available at this time.
