Man arrested after fatal single vehicle crash

TANGIPAHOA PARISH, La. — One person is dead, and another person was arrested after a crash in Independence, according to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The crash happened in the 54000 block of N Larussa Lane on Saturday, September 28, around 6 p.m.

Investigators say 45-year-old Antonino Reyes Carcamo was driving a 2003 Ford Expedition and lost control trying to make a left turn and hit a tree. After hitting the tree, the SUV overturned.

"There were six people, including Carcamo, in the vehicle at the time," TPSO said. "Five people experienced varying levels of injury, and unfortunately, 23-year-old Marisol Carcamo Vargas died at the scene."

Carcamo was arrested for vehicular homicide, driving while intoxicated, and reckless operation of a vehicle after he was released from the hospital.
