TERRYTOWN, La. — A man from Gretna is dead after a crash in Terrytown on Sunday morning, according to Louisiana State Police Troop B.

State police said the incident happened around 11:30 a.m. and claimed the life of Frank Mayfield, 36.

Mayfield was driving a 2009 Kawasaki Ninja Motorcycle at a "high rate of speed north on LA 428 approaching Northbrook Drive," the release said.

At the same time, a 2006 Toyota Tundra pickup truck was exiting a "private driveway" onto the intersection waiting to turn left when Mayfield crashed into the driver's side of the Toyota.

State police said Mayfield was not wearing a DOT-approved helmet, suffered fatal injuries, and died on the scene.

The driver of the Toyota was uninjured and "no alcohol was detected" after their breath sample, authorities said.
