Daniel Callihan extradited back to Louisiana

Daniel Callihan and Victoria Cox face charges in the killing of Callie and Erin Brunett from Loranger.

PLAQUEMINES PARISH, La. — Daniel Callihan was extradited back to Louisiana on Wednesday.

The 36-year-old is listed as in custody at the Plaquemines Parish Detention Center.

He is accused of killing Callie Brunett and then kidnapping her two young girls before allegedly killing the youngest, Erin Brunett – the latter of which he admitted to while being transported back to Rankin County Jail last week.

At a press conference in Mississippi on Monday, officials said Daniel Callihan and his alleged accomplice, Victoria Cox, will be tried in both Mississippi and Louisiana. Callihan faces two first-degree murder charges in Louisiana and capital murder charges in Mississippi in relation to the death of Callie and Erin Brunett. He also faces a federal kidnapping charge.

Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade said that the crime scene where Erin Brunett was found was worked "extremely closely with a very, very microscopic approach."

Wade and the other law enforcement officers recounted the horrors of that day and said they would remain with those who worked on the case.

"I worked homicide for 9 years," said Wade. "I will never forget that baby in the woods."
