BATON ROUGE, La. — An 18-year-old accused of raping LSU student Madison Brooks is facing a third arrest for rape allegations, according to our partners at WBRZ.
WBRZ reported that Kaivon Washington faces a first-degree rape for a sexual assault that happened in October 2022.
Police say that the victim of the October 2022 incident came forward on January 25, 2023, after Washington was arrested in the Madison Brooks case.
The October 2022 victim also said that she got drunk at Reggie's bar in Tigerland and went home with a male friend and Washington. She told police that while she was having sex with the friend that Washington grabbed her breast and genitalia. WBRZ says the victim reportedly showed officers texts where Washington apologized for taking part.
Washington is currently jailed in Livingston Parish.
Washington was charged with third-degree rape in the Brooks case. He was arrested last month for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl in 2020.
Our partners at NOLA.com obtained arrest records that revealed a victim accused Washington of assaulting her at a Walker pool party in May 2020. Washington was 16 at the time, and the girl was 12.
When the rape was reported in March 2021, the victim told police she and several other juveniles had been swimming at an apartment complex when she and a female friend went back to the victim's apartment. They were then joined by Washington and another male friend, the document says.
According to the victim, Washington followed her to a room, pulled a towel off of her, threw her on a bed, covered her mouth, and raped her.
Washington is among four individuals arrested and accused in Brooks' rape, which occurred after they all had been at Reggie's Bar in the Tigerland area in Baton Rouge near LSU's campus.
Washington's attorneys released the following statement to WBRZ on Tuesday.
“Our offices were just made aware of additional allegations against Mr. Washington. We are in the process of investigating this matter. However, there are several concerns with the most recent charge. First, like the matter in Livingston, the “follow-up” investigation took place on or about 1/25/23. Secondly, the date of incident on Mr. Washington’s warrant is different from his co-defendant. Third, in the warrant for his co-defendant it does not mention anything regarding intoxication. It states the victim was having consensual sex with his co-defendant in the presence of Mr. Washington. Finally, the victim never accused Mr. Washington of having sexual intercourse with her, thus we are curious as to why he was charged with rape.”
