NOPD officers arrested a man Tuesday for the shooting death of a 20-year-old near a corner housing several popular Uptown bars earlier this month.
New Orleans police booked 21-year-old Alec Billiot on one count of second-degree murder and three counts of attempted second-degree murder.
Around 1:50 a.m. on Jan. 10, Billiot allegedly confronted 20-year-old Lee Long and fired multiple shots. The attempted second-degree murder charges indicate there were likely other people on the street when the shooting took place.
Tulane police officers patrolling the Carrollton neighborhood heard the shots near Burthe and Hillary streets, and found Long with a gunshot wound to the chest inside a pickup truck.
He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after New Orleans police arrived, initial NOPD reports show.
A homicide investigation was opened. According to Tulane police officials, the victim told officers he was shot by a group of men who ran from the scene toward Maple Street.
Tulane officials sent an email to students following the shooting and said the victim was not affiliated with their university.
No further details were immediately available, including a possible motive for the killing.
