KENNER, La. — A police chase that started in Kenner crossed the Cresent City Connection and ended at a mall parking lot in Terrytown.

It happened at 2:53 a.m. on Saturday, according to Kenner Police.

Kenner Police say surveillance cameras alerted them of a stolen vehicle traveling down Williams Boulevard. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver, Tyrell Bailey, 18, fled, leading them on a pursuit on I-10 East, through Orleans Parish, across the Cresent City Connection bridge, and into Gretna.

Deputies from Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office and Troopers with Louisiana State Police assisted in the chase.

“The vehicle exited the elevated expressway and hit the surface street near Oakwood Mall. The driver then jumped from the moving car carrying a backpack. Officers chased the driver through the parking lot and observed him pull a handgun from his waistband as he was running from officers,” Kenner Police said in a statement.

Police say he eventually threw down his gun and surrendered. Police say coincidently, Bailey has a tattoo on his forearm that reads “NEVER SURRENDER.”

In addition to having a stolen car, the gun Bailey was carrying, a 9mm pistol with an extended 30-round magazine, was reported stolen out of Jefferson Parish in 2020.

He was also found in possession of 55 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, according to investigators.

Bailey was charged with possession of the stolen vehicle, possession of the stolen gun, and possession with the intent to distribute narcotics, among other charges related to the chase.
