ASCENSION PARISH, La. — A standoff with an alleged armed robbery suspect closed the Sunshine Bridge to traffic Thursday.
According to the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office, deputies are trying to negotiate with the suspect who has threatened to jump off the bridge.
Authorities responded to the Beauty Town store in Donaldsonville shortly after 12 p.m. to investigate an armed robbery. At the scene, deputies learned that someone robbed a store clerk with a knife before running away. That person was later spotted walking on the Sunshine Bridge.
The sheriff's office said the bridge will be closed "until further notice" and drivers should expect delays or use an alternate route.
Deputies with the St. James Parish Sheriff's Office are also negotiating with the suspect.
