The incident happened at a home in the 100 block of Eagle Landing Drive.

ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. — A 15-year-old girl who was accidentally shot inside of her home in the Goodbee area Tuesday night has died.

According to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office, the shooting happened in the 100 block of Eagle Landing Drive.

When deputies arrived at the home, a man related to the teen told detectives he was "handling a firearm in another room of the house when the gun accidentally fired."

The bullet went through the wall and struck the girl, authorities said.

Emergency personnel airlifted the teen to an area hospital for treatment but she ultimately succumbed to her injuries Wednesday night.

“This was a very sad and horrible accident,” Sheriff Randy Smith said. “I ask for our community to join me in praying for everyone involved.”

The sheriff's office said the incident is still under investigation. No further information is available at this time.
