Alabama woman dead after crash on Interstate 10 in St. Tammany Parish, state police say

The crash happened around 1 a.m. Friday morning and claimed the life of 37-year-old Brittany Rawson of Elberta, Alabama, state police said.

SLIDELL, La. — A woman is dead after a crash on Interstate 10 in St. Tammany Parish, according to Louisiana State Police Troop L.

The accident happened around 1 a.m. Friday morning and claimed the life of 37-year-old Brittany Rawson of Elberta, Alabama, state police said.

Troopers said Rawson was riding as a passenger in a 2014 BMW X1, driven by 42-year-old Andre Fontana on I-10, when the BMW crashed into the rear of a Freightliner tractor-trailer. 

State police said Rawson was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was taken to a nearby hospital where she later died due to her injuries.

Fontanta also was not wearing a seatbelt and suffered serious injuries. He was taken to a hospital.

The driver of the trailer was wearing his seatbelt and was uninjured.
