ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. — A Mandeville man was arrested Friday on animal cruelty charges after 11 emaciated dogs were found at his home, according to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office.

The owner of the dogs, Antino McKendel, 52, was arrested for 11 counts of cruelty to animals.

A deputy was responding to a call at another home in the neighborhood "when he observed several dogs in very poor condition in the yard of a residence in the 27000 block of Jackson Street," a release said.

The deputy then went to the home and found 11 dogs who appeared to be severely emaciated, unfed, and in very poor condition, the sheriff's office said.

Another dog was also found at the home. Deputies said the dog seemed to be neglected but not in as severe a condition as the other dogs.

All of the dogs were turned over to the St. Tammany Parish Animal Control.
