ST. CHARLES PARISH, La. — A Destrehan man was admitted for psychiatric evaluation after he crashed into and flipped over a truck injuring the driver, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office.
Deputies took 24-year-old Eulogio Diaz into custody after he was seen naked walking around a Winn Dixie parking lot on Wednesday around 7 p.m.
Surveillance video from a nearby business captured the moment of the crash. Diaz banged on the car he was driving before getting in, driving around erratically and then slamming into the truck, causing it to flip over.
"Deputies then spoke with the driver of the truck, who advised he was attempting to exit the parking lot when his vehicle was struck on the passenger side," a release said.
The driver suffered an injury to his hand while climbing out of a broken rear window.
Authorities believe the video showed that the crash was an intentional act and not accidental.
"Due to Diaz's erratic behavior and demeanor, he was assessed by EMS and transported to St. Charles Hospital. At that time, he was admitted for psychiatric evaluation," the sheriff's office said.
A search warrant was obtained for Diaz's blood and urine following the accident, due to signs of impairment.
Authorities said Diaz will be arrested on an outstanding arrest warrant for charges related to DWI, Aggravated Battery, and Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property once he is released from the hospital.
