ST BERNARD, La. — St. Bernard Sheriff James Pohlmann says they have arrested a teen in connection with threats of violence at a local middle school.

The sheriff's office first announced that they were investigating possible threats made against Andrew Jackson Middle School on Sunday.

On Tuesday morning, a 12-year-old male student from Andrew Jackson Middle School was booked on a charge of terrorizing after he sent a series of threatening text messages to another student.

"Let this serve as a reminder to both parents and students: illegal activities, particularly those involving threats of school violence, will not be tolerated in our community,” the Sheriff said. “It's vital that we work together to protect our children, and prevent them from engaging in harmful or unlawful behavior.”

SBSO detectives worked with school officials and other agencies during the investigation.

Sheriff Pohlmann says parents should monitor their children's online activity.

The Sheriff also encourages anyone with information regarding these types of instances to report it to the Sheriff’s Office by calling (504) 271-2501.

“If you see something, say something,” Pohlmann said.
