St. Bernard Sheriff welcomes department’s newest deputy

ST. BERNARD PARISH, La. — The St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office welcomes their newest deputy to the force.

K-9 Pit, a German Shepherd joins the department’s Special Investigations Division’s Narcotics Unit.

Sheriff James Pohlmann said investing in a canine narcotics dog is a valuable asset in combating drug-related crimes.

"Having our own narcotics dog will give us the ability to better deter illegal drug activities, ultimately building a stronger, safer future for everyone in our community," Sheriff Pohlmann said. "It reinforces our dedication to public safety.”

K-9 Pit took part in a four-week-long training course with his handler, SBSO Narcotics Agent Patrick Clark.

"Pit is not just a working partner; he's part of my family. Whether on duty or off, we spend a lot of time together, reinforcing our connection," Agent Clark said.

Pit will assist with traffic stops and search warrants during investigations and help with school searches.
