HAMMOND, La. — Three were arrested Tuesday after a student at Southeastern was saved from an overdose.
The overdose happened at some point in mid-January, Hammond Police said. A woman, who was a student at Southeastern was given NARCAN after experiencing fentanyl overdose.
That student has since returned to campus, Southeastern Police said.
A woman Kawaiishh Brown, 50, and two men, Shyheim Pines, 29 and Mark Fridge III, 21, were arrested on drug charges Tuesday for their alleged role in dealing to the woman who overdosed, according to Hammond Police Chief Edwin Bergeron.
The arrests were part of Hammond Police's fentanyl response team.
"This is the first major case that we have had as a team," Chief Bergeron said.
These three suspects could also face attempted murder charges, Chief Bergeron said.
"The new thing that we're stepping up is that we're going to charge these criminals that are selling the dope ... with attempted murder charges," Chief Bergeron said Thursday. "We're willing to be the pioneers that go after the drug dealers in this way."
