NEW ORLEANS — 23-year-old Brian Taylor has been charged with manslaughter in connection with a Friday night shooting that killed 22-year-old Zakary Stewart, of Cullman, Alabama.
The two were employees at a Hyundai car dealership and were involved in an altercation at around 5:30 p.m.. Investigators say the altercation escalated quickly and Stewart was shot.
Stewart died at the scene and Taylor fled the scene on foot before eventually being apprehended by Slidell Police later Friday night.
Stewart had recently moved to Slidell from Alabama and had not yet secured a local address. He was residing with friends on West End Boulevard in Slidell. His autopsy will take place early next week.
In regard to the incident, Slidell Police Chief Randy Fandal said, “An argument should never result in this level of violence. This was a senseless killing that never should have happened. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected by this incident.”
